Norbury Park Allotments
Growing fruit and veg in the heart of Norbury
"I’m just as happy growing cabbages as the rarest plant in the world."

Watering tips
Never use tap water on your fruit & veg, always use water from the butt (or rainwater) as the large container allows the chemicals to settle at the bottom and the chlorine to disappear in the air.
DON’T WATER ONIONS AT ALL, EXCEPT WHEN FEEDING.
You will notice you’ll get a better & bigger crop
Compost heaps
Make several to maximise the good compost you can produce to enrich your plot
Allotment Waiting List
Unfortunately, we have decided to close the waiting list, as we have over 50 people already waiting on it and allotments rarely become available. Usually that only happens when people move away or get too old, or when they die, so it can be such a long wait.
Our History
Allotments in Norbury Park began in 1940 to allow families and individuals to grow their own food to help the war effort. There were just two allotments before this date that were situated close to London Road. However, in 1940 the whole park was turned into allotments and remained so until 1945 when the park was taken back by the Council and the allotments were reduced to sites called Norbury Park, and North Surry Golf Course situated in Kensington Avenue. It was always planned to have housing built on the Kensington Avenue which eventually occurred.
The allotments were direct let allotments and plot holders paid their rent direct to Croydon Council. In 1966 some members decided to form an Association and managed the allotments themselves. It was decided in 1976 to become a Society and take our 21-year leases to fully manage the allotment side.
